Staff Spotlight, Leah Belay
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Leah Belay (she/her), and I have been a Registered Dietitian at Veritas Collaborative’s Adult Treatment Center in Durham, NC, for almost five years.
What does a typical day look like for you at Veritas Collaborative?
Over this past year, I have been working virtually in our IOP level of care. My day starts with breakfast with the patients, which is always so fun as I get to know them in a different way! I then move on to lead virtual nutrition groups and individual sessions. I tend to complete documentation throughout the day whenever there is a spare moment.
What are your favorite summer activities?
I equate summertime to family time! I love getting outside with my family, especially in the mountains with all the views (and less humidity!). Hiking, grilling (with help!), going for ice cream, and soaking in the sun are some of my favorite things to do in the summer.
What have our patients taught you?
This question is one of the primary reasons I enjoy working at Veritas – our patients teach me so much each and every day. They are all such intelligent and passionate people with diverse life stories. I love learning about their interests, dreams, and families. This profession provides the opportunity to meet people from all backgrounds, and I feel so lucky to get to know them in such a unique capacity. Overall, my patients have taught me how truly resilient people can be.
