Tell us about yourself!
My name is Megan Wine. I am a Registered Dietitian at Veritas Collaborative’s Richmond location and I have been here for almost a year and a half!
Describe the path that led you to Veritas Collaborative.
I decided that I wanted to be an eating disorder dietitian when I was in high school. The path to get here was challenging but so worth it! I went to James Madison University for undergraduate, then to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) for my dietetic internship. While at VCU, I had the opportunity to do a rotation at a residential eating disorder treatment facility, and that confirmed that I wanted to pursue a career in eating disorder treatment. After receiving my RD, I worked briefly in long-term care to sharpen my clinical skills and learn more about my leadership style, and after about a year at that location, I saw that Veritas in Richmond was hiring an RD! I applied immediately and the rest is history!
What motivates you to show up for work each day?
Knowing that I am helping others through some of their darkest days motivates me to show up daily. There are hard days—for me, for our patients, for their families—but at the end of the day, I remember this is such important work and I am lucky to be a part of each and every patient’s recovery journey.
What piece of advice would you give to those struggling with eating disorders?
Eating disorder recovery is HARD, but staying in your eating disorder is even harder. Pursuing recovery may seem scary, or even impossible, but I am here to tell you that it is POSSIBLE for everyone to seek and achieve recovery with the right support behind you. Recovery is hard, but it is so worth it.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
One thing most people don’t know about me is that I run a small calligraphy business on the side! Art and calligraphy are my favorite method of mindfulness, and I love being able to share my art with others.
