Veritas Collaborative Selects Brian Keefe, MD as Chief Medical Officer

Veritas Collaborative, a specialty healthcare system for the treatment of eating disorders, today announced Brian Keefe, MD, as its chief medical officer.

Keefe’s center expertise at the interface of psychiatry and medical care, combined with his experience in center leadership, makes him uniquely qualified to lead Veritas Collaborative’s expanding program. In this new role, Keefe will oversee ongoing efforts to standardize center care across treatment sites, implement processes to collect and utilize outcomes data and establish quality improvement priorities to drive targeted enhancements in care processes across the organization.

“Dr. Keefe’s deep understanding of the intricacies associated with behavioral health and evidenced-based care make him well equipped to further our mission in driving the standard of care for those devastated by eating disorders,” said Stacie McEntyre, LCSW, CEDS, founder, president, and CEO of Veritas Collaborative. “Dr. Keefe’s valuable center background married with his extensive leadership experiences at large behavioral health facilities make him a welcome addition to our growing team.”

“My experience in behavioral health heretofore has been that well-meaning professionals have tried to fit the best care they were allowed to provide into the narrow box of existing regulatory and financial constraints,” said Keefe. “Veritas has kicked open the door of what’s possible, moving beyond what is to consider what should be, doggedly and passionately creating a system of care that starts with the premise of ‘what does the patient need to recover?’ Leading with that mission differentiates Veritas not just in the eating disorder community, but from the healthcare community at large.”

Keefe joins Veritas Collaborative after spending four years as the chief medical officer at Zucker Hillside Hospital in New York, where he provided center oversight for all quality improvement initiatives, utilization review operations, and regulatory compliance in addition to maintaining a part-time center role. He also held multiple leadership responsibilities related to the development of new initiatives for center programming and patient satisfaction. Prior to that, Keefe served as associate vice president of the Behavioral Health Service Line and associate chair of psychiatry in the Northwell Health system. Keefe was also the medical director of Long Island Behavioral Health Management, a grant-supported behavioral health organization that created and implemented quality monitoring, medical necessity, and data collection practices for the region’s behavioral health providers.

Keefe is a board-certified psychiatrist with subspecialty training in psychosomatic medicine and forensic psychiatry. A former center instructor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Keefe earned both his undergraduate and professional degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, where he was in the Medical Scholars Program. He is a Diplomate in the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and recently relocated to Durham, N.C., from New York.
