Child & Adolescent Treatment Program

Specifically designed with young people in mind.

Most eating disorder treatment programs for young people were designed originally for adults. Not Veritas. We built our program from day one to meet the unique needs of children and adolescents—and their families. With a focus on individualized care, family involvement, and integrated educational support, our goal is to equip each person and family with the take-home skills they need to continue recovery and thrive in the home environment.

Individualized Care

We recognize that every young person is truly one of a kind, and they respond best when their treatment is one of a kind, too. That’s why we develop an individualized care plan based on their unique medical, nutritional, and emotional needs. It’s also why we assign them a multidisciplinary care team—medical doctor, dietitian, psychotherapist, and psychiatrist—that stays with them as they progress through treatment. This helps build a trusting and comforting relationship between the care team, the young person, and the family, and it means our team can more readily see what’s working best and adjust the care plan as needed. The goal, as with everything we do, is to provide more effective care that leads to lasting recovery.

Family Involvement

We believe families are powerful tools in the eating disorder recovery process. Therefore, a large component of our treatment process has been designed to facilitate family involvement through family therapy and multi-family groups each weekend. Our goal is to help each individual and family tackle the eating disorder and thrive together in the home environment.

Integrated Educational Support

Age-appropriate educational support, including an on-site school, is integrated directly into the Child & Adolescent Program so that each person is able to maintain progress on their academic trajectory. Our Education Coordinators are creative in implementing each student’s educational plans and meeting their needs. The primary goal of our Education Program is to enable the continuation of student learning and prepare the student for a smooth transition back to their home school upon discharge.

Nutrition and Culinary Support

Our nutrition program is designed to help individuals and families recognize and manage many common triggers for eating disorder behaviors. Unique features include individualized nutrition care with parent education and support, hands-on culinary experiences taught by skilled chefs, supervised restaurant outings, and private dining rooms where patients and families learn to navigate mealtime challenges together by planning, preparing, and eating meals in a realistic homelike setting.

Levels of Care

As a comprehensive healthcare system, Veritas is one of the few eating disorder programs in the nation that’s able to offer a full continuum of care, from inpatient to outpatient. In addition, medical assessment clinics are available to determine each person’s unique needs, including the optimal starting level of care—because starting the right treatment at the right time is the key to lasting recovery.
