Dr. Ron A. Thompson is a psychologist in Bloomington, Indiana. He has been treating patients with eating disorders for more than 35 years. He has also been a consulting psychologist to the Athletic Department at Indiana University for the past 31 years. Recently, he participated as a co-developer of The Victory Program at McCallum Place, an intensive treatment program for college and elite athletes with eating disorders. Additionally, he has been a consultant to the NCAA and the Medical Commission of the International Olympic Committee on disordered eating, and as such has developed manuals, protocols, and programs for the identification, management, and treatment of eating disorders in athletes. He has presented lectures and workshops on eating disorders at more than 130 regional, national, and international meetings, including presentations at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, the Dutch Olympic Training Center, and the Swedish Sports Federation. Included in his publications are the books Bulimia: A Guide for Family and Friends, Helping Athletes with Eating Disorders, and Eating Disorders in Sport, which he co-authored with Roberta Sherman, PhD, and The Exercise Balance with Pauline Powers, MD. He is a Fellow in the Academy for Eating Disorders, where he and Roberta Sherman jointly received the Academy’s 2008 Leadership Award for Clinical, Administrative, and Educational Service.
