PHP/IOP Eating Disorder Treatment for Children and Adolescents

Structured support for sustained recovery, designed for the unique needs of young people.

Veritas Collaborative’s partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) for children and adolescents offer greater structure and support than non-intensive outpatient treatment but more independence than 24/7 care. With an individualized approach and focus on family and community-of-support involvement, PHP and IOP equip kids and teenagers to build a life in recovery alongside the support of a multidisciplinary care team.

Components of PHP Treatment for Children and Adolescents

Child and adolescent patients can admit directly into PHP as a first step in treatment or transition into PHP from residential care. This more intensive level of care is delivered by a compassionate, experienced multidisciplinary care team, who provide tailored interventions, supervision, and support to manage eating disorder symptoms and facilitate the development of coping skills. PHP programming takes place either in our state-of-the-art eating disorder treatment centers or from the comfort of home in a virtual treatment environment. Our PHP program offers patients a full day of treatment, 5-7 days a week, with the flexibility to participate in other everyday activities. Components of treatment include:

  • Skills-based group therapy
  • Therapeutic meals and snacks
  • Family therapy
  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Individual nutrition sessions
  • Expressive arts and movement therapy
  • Food skills groups
  • Psychiatry and medical services, as appropriate

Components of IOP Treatment for Children and Adolescents

IOP supports child and adolescent patients who are moving from a higher level of care. It can also be a starting point for patients who need more intensive support and intervention than what is offered in outpatient treatment. With a focus on relapse prevention and sustained recovery, this group-based program offers a balance between intensive support and the autonomy to practice recovery skills in real-world settings. We offer IOP programming both virtually and in-person at our treatment locations, for a minimum of 12 hours per week. Multidisciplinary IOP treatment at Veritas Collaborative includes:

  • Skills-based groups
  • Therapeutic meals
  • Family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Individual nutrition sessions
  • Self-monitoring

What to Consider When You’re Considering PHP/IOP for Your Loved One

As a parent, you want the best for your child, especially when seeking treatment for their eating disorder. You play an essential role in harnessing the power of early intervention for your loved one. Children and adolescents are particularly vulnerable to the effects of eating disorders, and getting them on the path to recovery sooner sets them up for lasting healing. At Veritas Collaborative, we are proud to offer PHP/IOP as early intervention services for children and adolescents that provide both structured support and the flexibility of living at home, all while grounded in the support of our multidisciplinary care team.

It’s crucial to choose a program equipped with the expertise and tools to address the unique needs of children and adolescents. While many eating disorder treatment programs began with a focus on adults and later included services for younger patients, Veritas’ program was specifically designed for children and adolescents. We provide age-appropriate, evidence-based, family-centered care tailored to the unique medical, nutritional, and psychosocial needs of both children and their families.
