Hurricane Florence didn’t deter the more than 200 medical and mental health professionals from 15 states, and Canada, who came together in Atlanta for Veritas Collaborative’s 7th annual Symposium on Eating Disorders September 14-15.
The theme for the Veritas Collaborative Symposium on Eating Disorders was: Advancing Collaboration: Integrating research into eating disorders treatment. The main objective was to share knowledge and best practices and encourage communities of medical and mental health professionals to work together to enhance care for individuals affected by disordered eating and save lives.
Thought leaders with impressive backgrounds in nutrition, psychology, pediatrics, higher education, and behavioral health, exchanged insights and expertise during the two-day symposium to break down barriers and advance access to care for all persons affected by eating disorders. Surrounded by the best of the best in the field, attendees took away innovative approaches and proven best practices in eating disorder care to enrich the lives of their patients. They also made important connections within our collaborative community and will continue to share learnings in the future. In addition to attaining deeper knowledge in multiple areas, attendees earned up to 12.5 hours of continuing education credits!
Not only were there quality speakers, but the venue itself was first class. Gourmet meals, including plenty of healthy options, were served on a beautiful terrace overlooking the lake, and the weather was perfect. Friday night featured live music with an open bar and the amazing atmosphere offered great opportunities to relax and enjoy some down time between events. In the words of some attendees: “The time and energy devoted to the 7th Annual Veritas Collaborative Symposium was evident! With an exceptional line-up of speakers, the attendees were clearly interested and engaged in each of the sessions. It was an extraordinary event!”
The evening before the symposium was kicked off with a panel discussion moderated by Veritas Collaborative founder, president and CEO Stacie McEntyre. Panelists discussed myths and misconceptions that surround eating disorders, changes seen in patient population, challenges the industry faces as it provides resources, as well as ways to increase awareness, education and access for eating disorder treatment.30 Million Americans are devastated by eating disorder illnesses and it’s more important than ever for providers and advocates to share knowledge, insights and expertise, to increase the chances of positive outcomes.
According to one attendee: “Listening to colleagues share their work, and bringing home the point that biology is fundamental to this illness, came through better than I have seen at most conferences.”
Another attendee added: “The symposium was superb – the attention to detail, the speakers, the positive spirit and the passion. Thank you!”
The collaborative nature of eating disorder treatment made this event the perfect place to form trusted relationships with other experts in the field.
